About Me

Merinell Smith

When I was just 12 years old, something unexpected began happening. People started opening up to me. Friends at school would sit beside me and share their worries, their fears, their stories. They didn’t want advice or quick fixes. They wanted someone who would truly listen. Someone who made them feel safe. Someone who cared.

I didn’t realise it then, but this was the moment my life’s purpose began.

Over the years, the same pattern continued. Teens confided in me, parents reached out for guidance, and even my children’s friends felt comfortable sharing their struggles. Supporting others became a natural part of who I am, not something I learned, but something I grew into.

That early experience shaped my deepest values: compassion, understanding, and the belief that every person deserves to be heard exactly as they are. Those conversations taught me that when people feel seen, they flourish. And when they feel supported, they grow.

As a registered mental health nurse with over 30 years of diverse professional experience, I’ve walked beside individuals and families through some of their hardest moments. But the most meaningful work I’ve ever done is helping neurodivergent children, teens, and families understand themselves, find their strengths, and feel confident in a world that can sometimes be overwhelming.

My work today as an Autism and ADHD 1:1 coach is built on everything I’ve learned professionally, personally, and through lived experience. I create tools, resources, and programs that honour neurodiversity, celebrate individuality, and empower families to navigate life with clarity and hope.

The Autism Blueprint is part of that mission. It is the book I wish every parent and child could have when they first enter the world of autism, full of reassurance, strength, and practical tools that make life a little easier and a lot more connected.

If you’re here, it’s because you care deeply about your child or yourself. And I want you to know this:

You’re not alone.
There is a path forward.
And I’m here to walk it with you.
